Kent State University Methods of Assessment The Annual Survey of Employers and Recruiters will be undertaken in May of each year for students who have graduated and completed one heavy accounting season with their employer. Bachelor degree graduates also complete the Survey of Graduating Seniors which is administered during their last semester. The CPA examination results are reported each examination (May and November) by the school from which the individuals received the majority of their accounting courses. Locally prepared examinations will be used for masters graduates with an undergraduate accounting major and doctoral students. Use of the Results At the completion of the first cycle, the Department expects to build a database which compares students' overall grade point averages (gpa), accounting gpa, accounting program admission test scores, AICPA achievement test scores, and employer evaluations. This database will be supplemented by looking at portion scores on the AICPA achievement tests and information obtained from the Survey of Graduating Seniors. The complete database, supplemented where applicable by information from CPA examination results, will be utilized to determine appropriate changes in instructional content, instructional methods, and course requirements. External comparisons to surveys of accounting practice and CPA examination results of comparable institutions will be utilized where possible. An exit examination for masters students who have an undergraduate accounting degree is being developed internally at the present time to test advancement while in the masters program. The comprehensive examination for doctoral candidates is already used in this fashion. |
