National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) recommended practices and standards criteria will be used to evaluate nominations. Such evidence may include but is not limited to individuals who:
- Demonstrate personal concern for students and a strong commitment to Kent
- Have strong interpersonal skills
- Are available and accessible to students throughout the academic year
- Have frequent contact with advisees
- Know how, when, and where to refer
- Meet advisees in informal settings
- Demonstrate intrusive behavior which builds strong relationships with advisees
- Use appropriate information sources
- Are knowledgeable about academic requirements and policies, as well as university procedures
- Evidence student success rate
- Achieve exemplary advisee evaluations (summary data)
- Serve role as advisor/mentor
- Give adequate time to understanding and advising students
- Make efforts to improve advising skills and stay abreast of changes in regulations and procedures
- Monitor student progress toward academic and career goals
- Engage in developmental advising (career and life planning) beyond course scheduling
- Attend and support advisor development programs
- Engender positive colleague perceptions of their advising skills
