The Exploratory
Community Engaged in Learning (EXCEL) Program
EXCEL is a living/learning program for new freshman students in the
Exploratory Major who have chosen to explore the numerous majors at Kent
State University prior to declaring a major. EXCEL enhances student
academic success and offers students resources in selecting a major.
Participants in the program enroll in a common
core of classes and reside on the fourth floor of
Lake
Hall in the central part of campus, resulting in the formation of a
living and learning community. Students in EXCEL receive personalized
assistance that other freshman do not receive and are offered the
opportunity to attend special programs to enhance their success.

students declared their major by the end of their 2nd
semester in the 2006-2007 academic year.

rate from Spring 2007 to Fall 2007 is 90%.

- Monday, April 7, 2008: We had a presenter from communication studies at our meeting. This major is a good option for students who like working with people and are efficient at communicating their ideas through speaking and writing. For more information about communication studies, click here.
- Tuesday, April 8, 2008: We wiill be having our first community speaker tonight. Our community speakers will describe how they got interested in their field, the major they chose, their career path, and detail any other relevant areas of their careers. Tonight we will be hosting a mystery presenter, Sara Wise. Here are your clues. See if you can guess her career! She works with people on a daily basis. She majored in business. She never has a conversation with her clients. She works with many chemicals. She works closely with her clients' families. What does she do?
