The Exploratory
Community Engaged in Learning (EXCEL) Program
EXCEL is a living/learning program for new freshman students in the
Exploratory Majorwho have chosen to explore the numerous majors at Kent
State University prior to declaring a major.
EXCEL enhances student
academic success and offers students resources in selecting a major.
Participants in the program enroll in a common
core of classes and reside on the fourth floor of Lake
Hall in the central part of campus, resulting in the formation of a
living and learning community. Students in EXCEL receive personalized
assistance that other freshman do not receive and are offered the
opportunity to attend special programs to enhance their success.

Be a freshman
student (under 30 credit hours) who wants to join a living/learning

students declared their major by the end of their 2nd
semester in the 2006-2007 academic year.
