Family support and encouragement is key to a student’s success in college.

First Year Families
Get Involved!
We understand how important our families and parents are within a student's educational journey, so we have created a number of opportunities to provide our first year families and parents an opportunity to partner with us to be first year student success ambassadors. Kent State University offers volunteer opportunities. We hope you will consider taking advantage of one of these opportunities mentioned below.

First Year Parent’s Council
This group consists of parents and family members of first-year students who provide feedback to the “Office of First Year Experience” (FYE) on issues of particular interest to parents. The Parents Council meets at least once per semester and represents thoughts, ideas, comments, and feedback from the general parent constituency. All interested families and parents are encouraged to notify the Office of First Year Experience at 1styear@kent.edu or by phone at 330.672.2220.  Members of the Parent Council will be appointed by the Office of FYE.

Send a Hug
We know you might want to surprise your students with a bit more than a phone call or an email at times, especially for special occasions like birthdays or at stressful times like midterms or finals.  We have provided a few ways for you to remind your students that you are thinking of them.
