Q: What are the dates of the Spring Break trip?

A. Buses will leave the Kent Campus from the Michael Schwartz commuter parking lot Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.  Buses will return to Kent Saturday, March 22, to the Michael Schwartz Center at approximately 5:00 p.m.  You may park your car over the 8 day period in the commuter parking lot.

Q: What is the cost?
A: $299.00 is the total cost of the trip for first time volunteers and $199.00 for returning volunteers, which includes the $50 non-refundable deposit to reserve your space.  No reimbursements will be offered at the end of the trip.

Q: How do I register and pay?
A. You must complete a registration form, along with signing both the liability statement and the volunteer policy forms  to become a trip participant.  You complete the on-line registration form by clicking the registration tab.  You then return registration forms to Undergraduate Studies office in Olson Hall. 

Q: How are we traveling?
A. Transportation will be provided by chartered buses and possibly passenger vans too.

Q: Are meals provided?
A. Volunteers will purchase own meals on the drive down and on the drive home, with no reimbursement.  Snacks for the trip down will be provided.   Meals will be provided during our stay.  Breakfast will be cafeteria style, lunch will be boxed lunches and dinner will be cafeteria style at the lodging location. (Evening meals may be purchased on your own with no reimbursement.)

Q: Will there be transportation around Biloxi once we get down there?
A: Yes, arranged by Kent State University.

Q: Where are we staying?
A: We will lodge in a volunteer camp site established especially for visiting volunteers and in residence halls at The University of New Orleans.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Click the Packing and Tool List tab.

Q: How much time will we work each day?
A: Estimate 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with free evenings for relaxation and fun!

Q: How much free time will we have?
A: Estimate free time beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by a curfew. Free time activities will be discussed when we arrive. 

Q: Can non-Kent students participate?
A: Preferably no.  Feel free to contact one of the coordinators to learn if an exception is an option.

Q: Can friends be grouped together for lodging and work?
A: Possibly, groups are determined by worksite tasks and skill level.

Q: Can I take a shower?
A: Yes, in actual private shower stalls.

Q: What should I wear?
A: Click the Packing and Tool List tab. 

Q: Do I need previous experience?
A: No, only a desire to learn and to help.  Crew leaders will provide on-the-job training as needed.
