The Placement, Advising, and Scheduling System (PASS) is a required one-day program, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.,which brings admitted freshman students and their families to the Kent Campus. Students receive placement assessments, individual advising, and registration for semester courses. Students will leave with an official class schedule!
COMPASS (Computerized Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support System) is a computerized placement assessment developed by ACT which will be administered to each student during their PASS program day. COMPASS measures mathematics, reading, and writing skills. Some students will also be assessed for Foreign Language Proficiency. The results will be used to assist both the student and his/her advisor in selecting appropriate courses which will help to maximize the student's success at Kent State University.
Ninety-nine percent of the freshman class of 2007 at Kent participated in PASS. The success of the program is indicated by some significant numbers:
- over 3,900 PASS students registered for classes
- more than 6,700 family members attended
- students came from 43 states and more than 1,639 different high schools
